» (PBR PBBBS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, January 29. The control of the railways passgd into the hands of the Commissioners yesterday. Referring to this, the "Evening Post" states — "No material change m the syßtem of management will be made until Mr MoKerrow, the Chief Commissioner, returns from a tour of inspection of the railways of both Istaide, upon which he will start next week. The first important official act under the new regime h9fl been the ißsne of ci oulars to officers of the department throughout the colony, giving them the option of continuing m the service of the Board, or retiring with the usual compensation allowance of a mouth's salary for every year spent m the Government emp'oyment. The idea is that servants of the Board are not to rank at Civil servants, and be entitled to compensation on retiremant. Tho^e who elect to remain, however, will not extinguish the rights they have already acquired, but will simply hold over theic compensation claims until they may happen to quit the service. All the Board's employees above the rank of day laborers will be required to insure their lives. ! *c— — — **— ' — — — —
