THE SAMOAN QUESTION.
— ■ •> (Pxb Pbebs Association,) Berlin, January 24. The " Nord Deu'Bjhe Zeitung" says no treaties exist beween Germany and the United States, with reference to the independence of Samoa. Still Germany will treat with respect the rights of other powers m Samoa based upon existing treaties. The " National Zeitung » has official authority for stating that Germany will not interfere with the autonomy of Samoa and Zanzibar. The steamer Nurnberg, of the Nord-deutsche-Lloyd line, left Bremer-haven yesterday for Apia, with relief crews for the German men-of-war stationed at Samoa. Washington, January 24. Mr Sewell, Ameriaan Consul at Samoa, when under examination by the Foreign Relations Committee, said that m order to more effectually deal with the Samoan difficulty, Admiral Kimberley ; of the American corvette Triton, who was recently ordered to proceed to Samoa, must receive enlarged powers.
