WESTERN AUSTRALIA.
PjBBTg, January 17. A terrible tragedy is reported from a country district, where a settler named McPherson has been shot dead by an employee named Johnston. The latter then turned his attention to Mrs McPherson, whom he battered to death. An eleven-year-old son was also beaten badly about the head, and is not expected to recover. A aged fourteen, after witnessing the horrible fate of her parents, fled from the place and managed to elude the murderer and effect her escape. Johnston has not yet been captured. Information has been received that the collier Airlie was burned to the water's edge. It is supposed the coal took fire.
