AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND CONTRASTED.
Sydney, January 16. The "Sydney Morning Herald" commenting on Sir E. Stafford's remarks at the annual meeting of* the New Zealand Land and Mortgage Co. says Australia is a -better field for investment because its people are less heavily burdened with debt than New Zealand. The latter colony finds it more difficult to pay interest on loans than Australia. New Zealand has had to pay away m interest a larger portion of its produce than the Australian colonies, and by the depreciation of such produce New Zealand is the greatest sufferer. The " Herald " urges piat if is clearly recognised m well infprrned circles that there has been over investment of capital m New Zealand for such a limited population, and capitalists necessarily turn to a better field for their money.
