WAKANUI RIVER BOARD.
♦ A meeting of the Waktnul River Bosk wai held on Saturday. Present— All thi members of the Board. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Hr Olephane laid tho report of th( Works Committee on the table. The Ohalrmtn raad the 48th section o! the River Boards Act, and pointed out tba It would be the duty of the Board to elec a Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Olepbane asked the Chairman tc have tbe report considered first. This the latter deolined to do and asked the Board to eleot their Chairman. Bfr M. Wilson proposed " That Mr Jai Brown be elected Chairman of the Board. The motion was seconded by Mr Jas. AlisonMr Brown deolined to again occupy the ehalr, and said that his rnline had bean continually challenged and contradicted In very no complimentary terms to himself. Other members also declined to allow themselves to bo eleoted for tbe chair. Mr Brown was asked to reoonsider his deelafon bnt he firmly refused to be eleoted and. "Id he had "had enough of each chairmanship." At 12 o'clock after a lengthy irrelevant discussion it was resolved on the motion of Hr Thomas that the Board adjourn till 1 o'clock At 1 o'clock all the members were present except Mr Ulephane. Mr Thomas banded a note to the Chairman and asked him to "read it out." This Mr Biown - declined to do, and raid it was addressed to himself and was of a personal ani very offensive nature, so much so that he felt compelled to leave the room to save further trouble. Mr W. Wilaon moved "That this meeting now adjourn till 12 o'clock noon on Saturday, the 19th inst, " and said that lie did not see that the Board could do any business that day, and that the beat thing to do wonld be to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Mr Jarf, Wilson and carried.
