Morier, at present British Ambassador at 8t Petersburg, had, when Secretary to the British Legation to the Kingdom of Wurtemburg, and dming the FrancoPrnssian war, betrayed the movements of the German army to the French, bir E. Morier wrote to Count Herbert Bismarck indignantly denying the statement, and characterising it as an Infamous libel. He also requested the German Foreign Minister to order that ttte contradiction of the statement be published m the official organ. To this request Count Herbert Bismarck declined to accede, whereupon Sir R. Morier published the correspondence. The "Cologne Gazette" published another article wherein it declares that the former statement is correct, and that the information was given by the late Marshal Bazaine to the German military attache at Madrid. London, January 4^ The « Times," m the course of an article on th« accusation m the "Cologne Gazette," against Bir R. Morier, says that the attack on him is part of the system of persecution which is being directed against all who were the nearest and dearest to the late Emperor Frederick.
