CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is the Com Exohange I report for the week ending Friday, January 4th, 1889 :— Owing to holidaya, bueiuesa during the past fortnight has* been almost entirely | suspended. Merchants do not care to I extend their operations beyond actual orders, of which there is a great pcarcity at present ; beßidee, there are n>w no vessels on for Sydney. Miters are fairly well supplied, and will only operate for epecial lines at a rebate on late values. Reports from Australia advise^ of a drop m prices of all produce, owing to con siderab'e rains having fallen throughout tbe greater portion of the colonies. The English wheat market has had a fluctuating tendency during the past few weekf, and is now rather lower than a month ago. "Wheat. — No sales of importance have taken place, and we estimate values for prime Tuscan at 4s 3d, acd Hunter's And Pearl at 4s to 4s 2d. Seoood quality is not largely held, and prices are firm at 3s 91 to 38 lOd ; seconds, 3s to 3s 6d, according to quality, Oats.— Very few -samples are offering, but owing to the sudden fall intbeSydney market buyers here hive ceased purchas ing for the time being. Locally milling are worth 3s 3d to 3s 4d for sma'l parcels. Stout Bhort feed range from 3s to 3* 2d ; inferior and long kinds from 2s lOd to 2a lid. Bablet. — No malting offering, nominally worth 4s to 4s 3d ; small feed lines fetch from 2s 6d to 3s. Beans and Peas — A few lines on offer at 3s to 3s 3d, purchasers, however, are not eager to operate. Grass Seed. -The market is rather more quiet, and values remain at 2s 3d to 2s 6d for farmers' lines, and 3s to 3s 3d for machine dresßed. Cocksfoot has no business passing. Daisy Pboduce. — With no orders from Australia, and the hot weather setting m, dealers have lowered their price considerably, and it is now difficult to obtain over 7d for prime butter. The quality it not so good us it was earlier m the season. Cheese has a moderate sale at 5d for lo»f shape, and 4d to 4£d for larger kindp. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery, f.o.b. Sacks extra.
