PIONIO AND DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

Last Wednesday wnu the day fixed for the onnuf«l picnic and distribution of prizes m connection with the Public School at Aehton. Mr Ashton having kindly granted the use < f liii paddock at ihe mouth of the river, the parents and a considerable number of visitors aesombled there about 11 o'oloc*. After enjoyino; a h«*rty lunoheoD, footbnll and a number of oibor games were engaged m, und the childron attending the school had raceß for a collection of toys provided by the Committee The 1 prizes woro then distributed, each child ultondmg the school receiving a priz> acoording to merit. Three olieera wore then given for tho teachora, for iho Oouimittee, and for tho Jadioa who hud bo kindly provided tho good things. After a few more games lea and qakoo agafu carao into requisition and the party broko up, all apparoally being thoroughly satisfied with tho day'a entertainment.
