Hosmer, the oarsman, m the course of an interview, stated that American sculling had declined m consequence tf Hanlao's successive defeats, and the dishonesty of sonae prominent scullers. He considered both O'Connor and Teemer were superior men to the new champion Searle, and thought the lattet's reputation was based upon a comparison with Beach, who must have fallen off from his earlier form.
