DESPERATE AFFRAY
CONFIOT BETWEEN WHITES AND NEGROES. (PER PRESS ASSOOIAWOH.) New York, December 18. Information has been received of a serious conflict between whites and negroes at Wahalak, a small town m Mississippi, The dispute arose over the attempted rescue of a negro who had been arrested, and m the straggle twelve whites and 100 negroes were wounded. The whites succeeded m driving their opponents into a swamp, but further fighting is expected to Uk« place.
New Yobk, December It. It appears that the conflict between the whites and the negroes at Wahalak has been much exaggerated, and the disturbance is not so serious &b it was at first represented.
