At tbe Mansion Houeq Police Court, on October 17, Bertha Brown, 23, described rs a dressmaker, was brought before the Lord Mayor upon a charge of having stolen, on October 15, the Bum of £100 entrusted to her to take from tho Bank of England to an hot 1 m Finßbury. Tho defendant told him she felt co d, and he gave her a cloftk, for which te paid £7 7b. Witnesß went with her to the Bank of England, '■'hero be chanced £100 into gold. He entrusted the £100 to tho defendant to take to lbe hotel Tho defendant told him that the oibman would take him back to the hotel, atd they would get married the next day. Witness did not tee the defendant Bgaln till Tuesday night, when ehe told him she would Rive htm the money back The witness Informed tbe Lord Mayor that if the defendant gave him the money back he would be satisfied, as that was all he wanted. The Lord Mayor : Too entrusted her with tbe money and yoa were going the next day to be married. Let the defendant be discharged ; there Is no oa«e against her. The defeonant wao accordingly dlaoharged. The Lord Mayer said the defendant had given op the £100 to tbe polioe, and he supposed she would be willing that It should be given up to the complainant. The defendant said she was willing to give him £80 back. The Ohtef Olerk (Mr Douglas) observed that In that case the money would remain m the oare of the police, and Mr Drlsooll, the complainant, oonld iake out a summons against the police to show the title to It. The defendant aaid she would be willing to give op the £100 to tho complainant.
