Btdnb7, December 10 Lord Carington to-day laid the foundation of a raonutneot to th« memory of Dr Ling.
The " Tablet " tells the following amusing story of an inoident at Eton during the headmasterahip of Dif Keats. A boy named Kaahleigh, with all the others of his olaas, was set to write a theme on ihe maxim : Tcmcre nil facias. Whon the time oame for giving m the papers, Rushleigh appeared without his. • Where is your theme, sir ? ' asked the formidable Dootor. 'I haven't done it, sir 1 ' answered Rashleigh. 'Not done your theme, sir ? ' • No, Bir 1 ' persisted he, undaunted by the near prospect of the ' apple twigß.' • Why you told me not to do it 1 ' « I told you ? ' • Yes, sir ; you said, Temere nil facias— do nothing, Raßhleigh,' And the headmaster waß bo taken by the Latin pun, that the apple twiga were allowed to repose on the shelf."
