I The Secretary of the Eastern Extension Cable Company m a letter m the 'Times" states that a duplicate cable across the Pacific Ocean would cost four millions, and would be difficult to maintain and protect. He adds that it would be better, and that cheaper rates would be obtained by adopting the guarantee proposal of Sir John Pender, Chairman of the Eastern Company.
