Tamasese had concentrated 3000 men m a fort at Point Malinui, and next day the greater part of MaiaafVs force [ assaulted their entrenchments. After ■ a tough fight they were repulsed with the loss of. thirteen killed and tweatvot thirty wounded. A number of the latter afterwards died. Taraasese lost eight Mled and; ten wounded. Two of his war boats were engaged but did no damage. The wounded ' Were attended to by the surgeons :of the English man-of-war. , Mafcafa's] force is now nearly double that of Tamasese. On the 9th and xotha dropping fire was kept up,, but no harm was done^on either side, r : . .: } When the steamer sailed the hostile parties were still facing each ottfer: Mataafa is expected to win m the end.
