THE DISALLOWED PAYMENTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I notice by the report In the " Mail " of the Borongh Oonncil'a mettii g last night that the Auditor General has j Intimated his intention of di>allowing tae payment of £50 made t~> the ex-Town Olerk as bonus for lc si of office. Tn these times of retrenchment It will indeed be hard if the members of the Connoil have to pay this mono; oat of their own pockets I would oaggeßt as a way out of the difficnlty that his Worship the Mayor be deputed to wait on Mr Braddell with view to obtaining a re'und of the money. If thfs appeal should fall, whioh I hard I j think poeslble, perhaps the Jabilee Committee migbt be induced to rescind their resolution re the town clock and devote their fnnds towards repaying the Councillors the amounts they may loss through the harsh aotion of the Auditor, Yours, etc., Burgess.
