METROPOLITAN SHOW.

Christohtjroh, November 9. Heavy rain greatly interfered with the success of tbe fi-st dfty'B Show, m bo far as the attendance was aonoerned, whioh was only moderate. The Show Iteelf was qnlte equal ln point of merit to any previous one, There were some magnlfioont exhibits of sheep In nil the merino, longwool, and Down classes. Thero was also an exoellent .how of oattlo, The draught horses ol asses were filled with some good stock, especially mares and. youngsters, but the halfdczan aged entires were only a miderate lot. Mr R. Campbell, Mossrs Mallook and Lanoe, Mr Hi Tesohm_k-»r, the Warren Estate, snd John Barton were each very successful In merino classes* and the lattor took Miles and Go's fifteen guinea prizi for the best twenty rams. Messrs P. 0. Threlkeld, A. M. Clark, J Bnnlfant, J. Retd, the Hon M. Holmes, LHtle Bros, N,Z. and A. Land 00, and W. Morris were rmongst tho most suooeaffal exhibitors of longwools. Mr Max Frledlander had a grand show of Hampahireß, and he was alao suooessful with some good pens of fat sheep. The catMe made a grand and thoroughly representative chow and would be a oredlt to any country. The ohampion draught sire turned up m. a rico quality horse, Oeneral Gordon, who was decidedly. I the best of rather a moderato lot. Tbe mares were good, and there was a most creditable show of yoang Btook. Mr John Small took first pr'za m the olass for a pair of mares, with " Diamond " and " Fanny " There was a splendid show of pigs, and the competition In most classes was very keen, Tbe various implement fi-ms, as nsual, made a grand diaplay, and this part of tho Show alono was well worth going a long way to sac. Thero were a few uoveltleß aud a vaßt nomber of improvements m the various classes of machlnoty. The dairy produce was a oredlt to o_nte-r>ury, and tho New Zealand manoftio mes sff irded a etr. king Instance of the progress being made tn koil Indastrlpp. To-day tho weather, though lino overbead, was cold and bolateroup, but the attendance, though not nearly eqnal to last year, was large. ' Hie> Exo.llenoy tbe Governor visited the ground and at the luncheon spoke vory highly of the Show generally. Everything passed off without a hltob, and had tho weather been fine ln tbe early morning there would have been a muoh larger attendance of the general publio.
