(PSB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Washington. November 7. In' the Presidential eleotion the numbers polled were— Harrison 215, Cleveland 183. Hill has been elected Governor of New York. Grant, the Mayor is suspscted by the Democrat party of having bartered State for city votes. H*w York, November 7, The "New York Herald" asserts that President Cleveland's defeat is attributable to Hewitt splitting the Democrat vote, and considers that possibly the Democrats have a majority m representation. The " Tribune " statei that the Republican victory is due to the policy of liberty and protection. Its general comments indicate that the anti-British policy influenced the election. Cleveland secured a majority m the Southern States, while Harrison had a majority m the North. New York determined the result. WABHiNQTOir, November 8 The Democrats insist on an official count being made of the votes m New York State. They claim to have carried the States of California, Illinois and Indiana, and secured Cleveland's election, unless the New York vote is against them.
