COLONIAL GOVERNORSHIPS.
(per press association.; London, November 7. It is reported that Mr Wm. HartDyke, V.P. of the Committee of Council m the present Government, is certain to be selected for one of the colonial governorships about to become vacant. Sir Terence O'Brien, Governor of Heligoland, will succeed Sir A. H. Blake as Governor of Newfoundland. Mr C. S. Bark!«y, Chief Civil Commissioner of Seychelles Island, succeeds Sir Terence O'Brien at Heligoland. The Hoa W. F. Haynes-Smicb, C.M.G., Attorney-General of. British Guiana, will be appointed Governor of the Leeward Islands. Bkisbanb, November 8. In replying to Sir Thomas McIlraith's request to be consulted m the appointment of Governor, Lord Knntsford, Secretary of State for the Colonies, states that the Governor must be selected by the Secretary of State for the Queen's approval, and must be appointed by and responsible to the Crowa only. He adds that the request of the colonies to be consulted is impossible. The Press comment unfavorably on the appointment of Sir A. H. Blake.
