General Gourko, speaking at a banquet at Warsaw, referred to the Tery warlike spirit m Germany and Austria, and "warned ' those Powers not to discount the defeat of the Russians, for if taunted too far the Czar would order his troops to crosß the frontier m twentyfour houre. There were no troops to compare with the Russians, said the General, excepting the Turks, and when j the tight time came, deeds wonld prove their work. Already Russian troops knew the roads to Vienna and Berlin.
