ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

Mr D. Thomas (late of Mataon, Cox, and Oo.) reports upon the live stock market for the week ending Oat. 80th, as follows :— On Tuesday at the ABhbarton Yards I held my Dsaal weekly Hale of sheep, cattle, md pif?e. The total entry for the day comprifgd 8876 sheep, 11 rams, 88 oattlo, and 2 pigs, pf whioh I sold 2098 sheep and 16 head of cattle. The attendance was below the average, no doubt owing to many farmers preparing for the Timaru chow and the very unpleasant nor'-wester that was blowing the whole of the day. The bidding was rather slack, and two or three lines were passed m unsold. The following prices were realised :— ln fat sheep —Merino wethers, lls 6d to 11s 9d; ■horn crossbred ewer and wethers, 10a 3d. In Btores— A very fine line of oroßsbred hoggets, well-grown and full wooled, 15s ; also a good line of four-tooth ewea and wethers, 14s lOd; first cross two-tooth ewea and wethols, 18a 8d ; crossbred hoggets, 12s, 13s Id ; a mixed line of crossbred an.d merino ewes and lambs, 10s ; merino ewes and lambs, da ljd ; fat lambs, 7s 3d to 7s 6d. In cattle, fat heifers, £5 17s 6d to £6; cows, £1 10s to £2 18s 6d. Oa Friday week I held my usual fortnightly stria ofßkins. I had a good entry and the com* petition was brisk. Butchers' orossbreds, 6* 7d to 5s 8d; all other lines were Bold at pet lb, via , 5f d and 6d to 6Jd.
