THE DROUGHT IN NEW SOUTH WALES

(PBR PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, Ootober 29. There are no signs of the drought breaking up. In many parts of the colony the thermometer stands at 103 m the shade. In the immediate neighborhood of Howlong the heat is not quite so bad, but m other parts of the same district the crops are a]mos,t beypnd hope. At Broken Hill trains conveying water are arriving daily, and their freight is being sold at 4s per jpo gallons. In the Eden district (towards the coast) heavy rains have fallen, and the country will be able to hold out some J time. Nowra district is exceedingly j dry, and disastrous bush fires are raging m all directions. On one station alone 20,000 acres of grass bas been destroyed. At Gundagai rain has fortunately fallen over the farm areas, bqt m Argyle many settlers are selling off tbeir stock, fearing the disastrous results of a dry season. Crops m that quarter are also suffering greatly, and potatojplanting has entirely ceased. Near Inverell sheep are dying m large numbers. At Kempscy grass is still abundant. Bush fires are also devastating the Namaoi district. Rurra Burra station has been bnrnt out, and several runs m Walgett and Moree have been destroyed.
