THE MINERS' STRIKE.
4 — (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Sydney, Ootober 20. The miners arrested for taking part m the riot at Adams' Town, four miles from Newcastle, have appealed against the sentence passed by the Magistrate. The case was heard yesterday. His Honor acquitted the accused, and said that the verdict m regard to one of the prisoners was directly against the evidence, and contrary to law. He recommended the Crown Prosecutor to inform the Attorney General of the impropriety of trying any such cases m coal districts. Sydnsy, Ootober 21. The Conference of delegates from mine managers and the miners have made satisfactory progress towards settlement of matters now m dispute. The men have given way to the mini- . mum and the managers to the maximum proposals.
