COLONIAL GOVERNORSHIPS.

(PBB FBKSS ASSOCIATION.)

London, Ootober 17

The rumor to the effect that Sir John Gorst, Political Secretary to the India Office, would succeed Sir W. D: Jervois as Governor of New Zealand is denied.

It is reported that the Right Hon D. R. Plonkett, Commissioner of Works m thft present Administration, will succeed Sir William Robinson as Governor of South Australialittle credence being given to the rumor formerly telegraphed to the effect that Mr Plunkett if as to be the probable successor of Sir A. Musgrave as Governor of Queensland. It is thought the climate of South Australia vrill be more suitable to the right hon. gentleman's health than the climate of Queensland.

The succession to the Governorship of Queensland is now regarded as a certainty for the Bight Hon. H. Cecil Kaikes, one of the membars for Gambridge University, and PostmasterGeneral m the present Administration. Some months ago Mr Raikes was mentioned as a probable successor to Sir W. Jervoia.
