Sir Morell Mackenzie's booli; contains twenty-one plates shotyjng the details of the larynx and the use of the canula. Sir M, Mackenzie denies that he wounded the vocal chord m his operation and states that Dr Gerhardt was guilty of making a false a&usation against him m asserting that this was so. AH Sir M. Mackenzie's German colleagues, including Dr Bergmanq, admitted he was right m h,is treatment of the, patient. Sir M, Mackenzie affirms that Dr Bergmann opened the i treachea three millimetres to $he right of the middle line when be used the canula, thus causing a loss of tissue, intense discomfort, and exhaustion. Dr Mackenzie accuses Dr Bergmann of wrongly diagnosing the secondary cancer and says the death blow was given to the Emperor on April 12, through Dr Bergmann's tube making 3 false passage, thus inflaming ttje traphea, drawing the strength of the patieqt, and shortening his life by fen months, The Emperor hac[ suffered no pain until tracheotomy was per* formed, The voice was destroyed by the operation and the recurrence of the I disease was almost certain. Dr Gerbardt's ruthless cauterising of \hs Emperor's throat waa u.nesampled m the history of sqrgery, and w/as likely to make a benign complaint a malignant one. «• The British Me.die.al Journal » publish^ a facarnile of a letter written, by the late Emperor Frederick containing the expression " Bergmann illtreated me." :
