AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

r Mr P. Thomas (late of Matson, Oox and Co ) reports on the livp stock market m the Ashburton district for the week ending Oct. 12»h, as follows :— On Tuesday, at the Tinwald yards, I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. There was a very fair entry both m cai tie and sheep, but m pig 3it was poor. The attendance of farmers, dealers, ani others wns abovo the average, the salo resulting m a fair clearance of sheep at rates fully better than laßt week, whilst m cattle the demand was not so good. Fat sheep brought from 11a G 1 to 14s 6d. My principal Bales were : 30 fat orossbreds, 148 31 ; 1 do, IG3 61 ; 113 do, 13s 4d ; 64 Btore merino wether*, 6d 4d ; 105 orossbred hoggets, 10.3 7d ; 650 first crops hoggets, 11b 6d ; 20 second cross hoggets, llg 3d. In cattle I sold 2 fat steers, £5 10s end £5 2s 6d ; heifers, £3 7s 6d, £3 5s ; C yearling heifers, £1 2s ; 3 Btore heifera, £2 12s 6d : 18 calves, 26a ; old oowb from £1 10s to 35s each During the week I have sold 240 crossbred ewes, 100 per cent lambs, at 14s ; 600 hoggets lis 9d ; snd 240 fat orosebreds, 14s 9d. On Frietey last I held my usual fortnightly sate of sheep skins, fat, hides, and tallow. I had a fair catalogue, best crossbred skins bringing 5s 6d to 5s lOd, one odd lot 6a 3d; ordinary orossbreds, 3s 6d, 43, to 4s lOd ; best merinos, 4b 6d to 5s 6d ; half wool skins, 2s 6d to 3a 6d ; pelts, 8d to Is 9d eaoh ; dry skins, sd, 5Jd, 5Jd, to 5Jd per lb.
