CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, October 12th, 1888:-

London cables continue to encourage holders of wheat to anticipate further adTanoes, consequently transactions have not been on Buoh an extended Boala as might be expeotcd In regard to stocks now m the colony, deoidedly coutradiotory reports haVe been published, and notwithstanding the infiuential weight of those who hold that there is a large surplus over what will ba required for looal consumption w« still reiterate our former conviction that stocks have been decreased to a considerable extent, bo muoh so, as to discourage the idea of any important benefit to tba farming community for this year. Given, however, such weather as has lately been experienced and favorable oiroumßtanoeß for harvesting, etc., Canterbury should stand a good Bhow of oasting off that depression which has weighed so heavily on her agricultural interests for several years. Quotations to date are : —

Wheat — Tueoan, first quality, 3a 8d to 3s BJd ; pearl, 3s 8d ; hunters, 3a 7d to 3s 8d ; ohiokwheat, 2a 6d to 23 lOd.

Oats — Prime milling, 2a 3d ; bright short feed, 2s 2d ; inferior and long, 2s to 2s Id.

BabXiß? is for the present dormant, transao* tions almost nil, values unaltered.

Beans and Picas— A slight enquiry, for the former, at from 2s 8d to 2s 9d f.0.b. ; for the latter, 2s 4d to 2s 6d.
