ASHBURTON RIFLES' SOCIAL
The ABhbmton R'fl s held their second eooUl gathering of the season m the Oddfellows' Hall last evening. There was a vary good attendance, and the whole affair passed off most successfully. Tne hall was decorated wUh fl»gs, evergreens, e'c. An excellent programme' was provided, and the entertainment was cm of the best of its kind that has been held here for some tlm\ The principal foature of the evnning was the exhibitions on the Roman Hnga and double trap^zj by the Rosalie Bros. Thpsa items were given m first class style, and the f«ats of. the lrcil acrobats were deservedly, applauded. T<?o members of the Rifles carried out the clown business m connection with the former Itemln orthodox style, their performance being very creditable, indeed. A eqaad of the Rifles, under the command of O^t Dolman, went through a number of evolutions excellently, and both instructor and men are eitltled to credit for the long and careful preparation that must have been bestowed on thli Item. A double negro Bong and danoe, m ohsraoter, by Messrs R, Oullen and Yr> Matthews, was given In first-olaai style and warm'y applauded. Songs, with chorus by members of the Rifles/ were given by O»pt. Dolman, Lieut Fookt, and Mr Flokford. Muslo foi the dances was supplied by Messrs Gates and Ward, and Mr W, Hioks made an efficient M.O.
