JAM PfilMO. # Some time since we published a small paragraph en the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed m .the colony. This reaohed Meisra Eirkpatrlck and Co., of Nelson, and they went to work m a very practical fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the best quality. Tiro cases of assorted jams were Bent to this offioe, with a request that we would thoroughly test the jtm along with other brands, and give oar opinion. We are h»ppy to state, frankly and fully tuat we have been very maofa surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Klrkpatrlok'a gift we were nnmware that .New Zealand oonld boast of an industry of whtob It has so much reason to be prond. The various sorts of jam were tested by a nnmber of persons, who compared the samples with other brands, and the general verdict la chat not only are Messrs Ktrkpatrlck's produotlona far aud away better than any other .New Zealand brand we can obtain, bat they are superior to^iSngtisn jamß m being fresher. The nearest approach to the excellence of the Nelson jam was that contained m tins bearing the name of a Tasmanlan firm, bat even In this comparison the^Nelson article came out a long way best. We are pleased to be able to give unstinted praise to a genuine local industry, the product of whloh we can unreservedly reoommend to consumers. < All of the many persons who have tested the samples ate loud In their pralae,"anH we mnat nnreaervedly congratulate Mesarg Klrkpatrlck and 00. npocTtnrnlng oat a genuine fruit jam fit to grace the tablea and please the palatea of the most luxurious and fastldloua. — " Jbtawke'a .Bay Herald," Jaiy 18th. Samples of Klrkpatrlck and Go's " X " brand of jam have been forwarded to as and we are free to confeaa that they appear to be m every way exoellent and »s they become better known In the looal market will meet with muoh appreciation from the heads of household!. The maker * asserts that none but the purest fruits grown In Nelson are used In bis manufactures, and we ate content to accept that assurance. Certainly the i»ma possess a richneai and frespuesa at flavor . that bears that assertion ont.— Dgpedlp btar, " July 3, ~" "
