Cairo, October 2; It is reported that the Mahdi is dead. Four thousand Dervishes from Dongola are marching on Barras.
White traders report that the Mahdi is dead. They know nothing of Stanley beyond the fact that he had left Bahr-el-Gazelle for Khartoum.
The British expedition to the Congo country to punish the murderers of Captain Dalrymple are meeting with great opposition at the hands of the natives.
