THE QUICKEST MARRIAGE ON RECORD.
One of the quickest marriages I ever heard of, said a man from down on the "Wabash, was performed by the Bey Dr Aaron Tamer, now m Minnosota conference.
" Dr Turner was m oharge of the Vincennes circuit at the time. One evening he was hurrying his toilet m preparation for a marriage he was to perform at eight o'clock at the home of one of his flook. He was late, and very muoh afraid that he couldn't reach the plaoe of appointment m time. Just as he got his white tie adjusted and was setting himself into bis coat, a linook was heard at the parsonage door. Dr Turner took up hid hat, stepped to the door, and opened it. A young man stood on the outside. Dr Turner asked his business. The young man was flurried, but he managed to say that he wanted to get married, and handed the parson a marriage licence.
" ♦ Well/said Dr Turner, ' I can't do it tonight. lam hurrying now to perform another ceremony. I'm already late. •• ♦ But,' pleaded the yonng man, 'it -won't take long.' •"I know, but I can't wait.' And the preacher came out and olosed the door, walking away rapidly. "'• But Mr Turner,' called the young man, desperately, and he ran after the minister, 1 you surely can marry us. It won't take you but a minute.' "•Where's the lady?' " • Eight baok here,' and the young man pointed to a figure standing m the shadow of a tree. " • Well come on,' Dr Turner said, and the two went baok to where the girl stood. •"Is this the woman you want to marry ? ' •' • Yea,' said the young man. '••Then you are man and wife. Good night.' And he went, leaving the pair standing speechless. It was a minute be'foro the newly-made husband recovered enough to run after the preaotnr, who was rapidly disappearing m the dark. •• • Mr Turner 1 Mr Turner !' he cried. " « Well,* what is it ?' said the preacher, pausing. •« • Why, wag that all ? Will that do V " • Yeß, yes, that will do. You are just as much married as if I'd gone through a yard of ceremony. Good night" And again he hurried away, reaching his appointment just m the niok of time. 11 The young man went slowly back to his bride and spent the next hour or two m satisfying her that she was really married." — <• Detroit Free Press."
