Robert Stevenson, a well-known Anok* land tradesman, waa nommltted for trial to day on a charge of making a false ~ representation. Stevenson beoftme bank* 'npt on the 23rd August, and on the 19 h Ja!y he attended an auction ikle held by ' A . Buckland and Son. He was then Id* forrcnd that the auctioneers would not take hla bid unless he paid an account of £46 3 1 owing to that firm. Hs thereupon gnva a oheqae for the amount. Two steera were purchased by him at the Bile, bat the oheqae was subsequently dishonored by the Bank. - Wxlungtov, Ootober 1, The customs revenue for the month of September was £126,771 14s lOd against £106,866 6i 10J m mmc month last year and £136.610 la August. The amounts reoelved at the prinoipal potts were :■— Auckland, £34,370; Wellington, £19,413 J Ohrlitohuroh, £18,858; Danedin, £29.505. The Beer daty for September was £3530 18s 81, against £4 084 13s 9d for September last year.
