Auckland, Saptembes 29. Tho charge againßt W. H. Kettlewell m connection with tho recent damage to property at St. John's Roman Oatholio Church, Parnell, was withdrawn, as the Lady Superior of the convent was re luctant to prosecute. iCettlewell has paid for tho damage, and has aleo given a donation to the funds of the convent;
An^ extradition warrant was issued today m respect of a man named JO9. Young, who left Auckland for Sydney on the 18th m St., having given valueless ohequea to several tradesmen. Young has been arrested at Sydney.
Auckland, September 30 Guard Luck, who has been employed on the railway for rnaDy years, was engaged shunting at Mercer Station yesterday, when he fell between the trucks, and one of his lega was so severely injured that it had to bo amputated. It is reported that the men, Wauraen and McCarthy, m the employ of Garrett Bros.} contemplate legal proceedings, m order to put a stop to the hooting and m timidation to which they are subjected by those out on strike During the past week the men have had to leave work at an early hour each day to avoid the crowd which collected outride Garrett Bros. 1 premisos m the evening. St Mary's Anglican Cathedral, Parnell, was opened today by the mbad Rev. the Primate, Bishop Harper, who preached on the oooasion. There was a crowded congregation present.
Wellington, September 30. Government do not intend to appoint any successor to Dr Johnston as diitrct coroner at present, and the appointment may not be made nntil the Mioister of J uatice returns from Melbourne. Sevei at coroners m different parts of the colony have resigned m consequence of the reduofcton of scale of fees by the Aot of last Betsion, Excepting m the cases of the largo towns it is not likely that the vacancies will be filled up, but the work will be left to the Beeident Magistrates and Justices of the Peace.
