Some time since we published a small paragraph en the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed In the colony. ■ This reached Messrs Kirkpatrlck and Co., of Nelson, and they went to work m a very praotioal fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the best quality. Two cases of assorted jams were sent to this ofSoe, with a request that we would thoroughly test the jam along with other brands, and give our opinion. We are hwppy to statp, frankly and fully that we have beeo very much surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Kirkpatriok's gift we were nnaware that New Zealand oonld boaßt of an industry of which It has se much reason tobe proud. The various sorts of jam were tested by a number of persons, who compared the samples with othey brands, and the general "verdtot Is th'it not only are Messrs Ktrkpatrtck's productions tar aud away better than any other JNuw Zealand brand we can obialn, but t'hoy are superior to English jams m beiog fresher. The nearest approach to the excellence of the Nelson jam waß that contained m tins bearing the name of a Taamsnian firm, but even In this comparison the Nelson article came out a long • way best. We are pleased to be able to give unstinted praise to a genuine local indaatry, tho product of whioh we can unreservedly reoommend to consumers, i All of the many persons who have tested | the samples are loud In theft* praise, and - we must unreservedly congratulate flleaJurs j Kirkpatrlck and 00. upon taming out a t genuine fruit j»m fit to grace ihe tablea \ and ple^ee the palates of thw most ( luxurious aid f«s' Jdioua.— - " Hawke'a Bay t Herald," Juiy 18th. J Samples of Klrkpatrlck and Oo's "X " < brand of jam have been forwarded to us c and we are free to confess that they ( appear to be In every way exoellent and as they become better knows m the local market mil meet with much appreciation c from the beads 6* households. The maker p asserts th&i uone bt*t the purest frui's i< grown In Nelson are uaed m ,h|s mauu- b faetares, and we are content to pog?pt h that asauranoo.
