ESCAPE FROM GAOL

S Inveroargill, September 24. A young man named Rudolph Radka, who wa* onimitted for trial o» the 17th lnat., on a charge of arson, esoaped from (he gaol between 10 o'olook bat night and 6.30 thla morning. At the former hour, the lndloator on the cell door showed that It was looked, bat Radka mast have tampered with it In aome way bo as to make It give a wrong reading, for the (tell was vacant this morning, an.d a wire clothes line dangling over the front wall showed qnly too plainly the means used to effeot escape. Ones oat cf the cell Eadka had Blmply to unbar a door, pick up the clotheo line, make a loop m one I end, throw It over one of the amall turrets surmounting the front wall, haal himself up, lower the line on the other side and drop on to the ajrphalt pavement outside. j Be wore his ordinary dree», which, of course, favori his chance of nuking good his attempt at securing liberty. The alarm was promptly given, and \he polloe and warders are now econrlng the country _, Latek. The search for Kadka has so far proved unsuccessful. A man believed to have been Radka »as Been ranning along the street near. the gaol at 3.30 thia morning. The person who bbw him notiolng his rapid pace enquired If there was b fire, but reoeived no answer.. The latest report Is tbat a boat la missing from the vioinity of (he jetty. It is stated that Eadka had been visited pretty frequently by acquaintances sines his Incarceration. No tnoe has been found In the call of the tool by which the look of the door was poked,
