Some time since we published a small paragraph en the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed m the colony. This reaohed Messrs Klrkpatrlck and Co., of Nelson, and they went to work In a very practical fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the best quality. Two cases of assorted jams were sent to this office, with a request that we would thoroughly test tbe jam along with other brands, and give our opinion. vVe are htppy to state, frankly and fully that, we have dcbd vary much surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Klrkpatrlok'a gift we were unaware that New Zaalaod oonld boast of an industry of which It has so much reason to be proud. The various sorts of jam were tested by a- number of persons, who compared the samples with other brands, and the general verdict Is that not only are Messrs Kltkpatrlck'a productions far aud away batter than any other New Zealand brand we can obtain, bat they are superior to Ennllah ja'mi *i'n being fresher. The nearest approach to the excellence of the Nelson jam was that contained In tins bearing the name of a Tasmanian firm, but even In this comparison the Nelson artjole came out a long way best. We are pleased to be able to give unstinted praloo to a genuine looal industry, the produot of which we can unreservedly reoommend to ooaaamers. All of the many persons who have tested the samples arelond m their praise, and we matt unreservedly congratulate Messrs Klrkpatrlck and Co. upon turning out a genuine fruit jam fit to grace the tables and pie tee tbe palates of tho moat Inxoriuna »t.d fastidious.-— "Hawke« Bay Herald," July 18th. Samples of Kirkpatrlok and Co's " X " brand of jam have been forwarded to us and we are free to confess that they appear to be m every way exoellent and »s they become better knowa m the local market will meet with much appreciation from the heads of households. The maker asserts that cone but the pureßt frul'S grown m Nelson are used m hie manufactures, and we are content to accept that assurance.
