WAKANUI RIVER BOARD.

The minutes of the last meeting of the old Board were read and confirmed. It was resolved on the motion of the Chairman seconded by Mr M. Wilson " That this Board approves of tha whole of the business done by the late Wakanui River Board and now ad op's all its engagements and responsibilities." The Chairman moved— "That Messrs Fooks and Sons be authorised to sue after October 6h for all rates of whiob part Is not paid to the extent of half by the above date. 1 ' Mr B. Thomas would second the motion, If something were added to the efleoi that the Board could not work with* out money. The Chairman and Mr Wilson pointed out that Mr Thomas's suggested addltfon was quite understood. In reply to Mr James Wilson the Obalr^ man said that the payment of the second • half of the rite was a question for the future consideration of the Board. The motion was carried. The Chairman suggested that a resolution to the following effeot should be agreed to :— "That Messrs be a .Works Committee to watch over the 1 vagaries of the river any works m hand and to report from time to time as to what they think best to be done."
He suggested that the number of Committee should ba three, and pointed out that its ohief objeot would be to attend to small works that might urgently reqalre attention before a meeting of the Board could be oalled together. The motion was oarrled, Messrs James Wilson, B. Thomas, and M Wilson, being being appointed the Committee. Mr M. VVileon said that to meet the Bird's need for money he would move that an account be opened with the Bank of New Zealand on the credit of the incoming rate to meet the present need, Messrs Jamas Brown and E. Thomas to make tbe neoesiary arrangements. In speaking to his motion he sild that all who h»d seen the river on the previous day, would agree that something required to be done at once, and they could not undertake any work without money. Mr James Wilson seconded the motion whioh was carried.
The Chairman suggested that they should apply to the Road Board for the control of the line of road at the river. No work could be undertaken on the road at present without the consent of the Road Board.
A motion m the direction Indloatod was agreed to.
