VICTORIA.
Meiboubne, September 19. Further replies have been received by Mr Gillies from the Governraews of other colonies with reference to the proposed survey of the Pacific cable route. The Government ot Tasmania state that they consider it undesirable , that Great Britain should be relieved of her obligations m reference to the matter, and advise that a further appeal should be made to the Iraperia Government to facilitate the survey, and bear a portion of the cost. The Government of Western Australia state that they will be guided by the action taken by .other colonies, and will await the receipt of their replies on the subject before committing themselves to a decision. The Government of South Australia have replied that they cannot contribute to the cost of the survey. Detective Stoke, who was proceeding to arrest a larrikin, was fired at and badly wounded. He now lies m a critical condition.
