A serious riot took place at Lambton Mine, Newcastle, yesterday. A number of laborers who had been engaged to put out coal were rushed by a mob of some thousand miners armed with sticks. The police attempted to protect the men but were powerless against the numbers, and violence was only prevented by the surrender of the laborers, who undertook to refrain from doing any more work.
