A salgaee presiding, Mr Wade appending lot "the bankrupt and Mr Manisty for several creditors. The debtor's statement was as follow* : —Liabilities (all anseauredj, £92 2s 6d. Aflßets ; Book debts (£IQ), estimated to produce £2. Principal creditors: 8. Barnard (Ashburton), £23 ; James Baker (Aah,brjrton), £12 10s } J. M. Reid (Ashbarton), £7 ; — Morgan (Tlmirn), £7; Robert Aloorn {Ashburtoo), £5 ; Morris (Ashburton), £6 ; Bank of Australasia, £4 17s 6d j Quane and Co. (Aahburton). Tho debtor was examined on oath and ■aid ho oime to loveroargill from Ashburton about the. 7th July, having joifc enough money to pay bis fare. He had no asset* other than those mentioned m the statement. His wife had some monej which oame to her on her mother'a death. It was his wife's money that oarrled on the pork butobery business la Inveroarglll, ho working for her and receiving waged at the rate of about thirty shillings per week. He had oarried on business In Ashburton for about seven or eight months. . About two yean ago hs bad filed m Ohrlstouuroh, but he oould not say whether his solicitor had obtained his discharge. If ha had kept on the business m Aahburton be wouldl have got deeper into the mire. He had offdred to pay off his oreditora at the Hate of £4 per month but the offer ma. nob aooepted. He had been compelled to file* through legal proceedings taken by some, of his oreditora. If he had got time h» would have paid everyone m foil Re> had got a summons late on a Monday night to appear at Ashburton on the following Thursday. It had been Impossible* for him to go to Ashburton In answer to the summons owing to the shortness of the nofcloe. Ho had about £20 when ho started business m Asbburton. . His wife bad about £60 when ohe oame to loveroarglll. Mr Manlsty moved, seoonded by Mr Jennings, that the proceedings be transferred to the local Court of Binkruptoy at Ashburton. The chairman ruled that a sufficient proportion of the debtor's liabilities wai not represented to enable soon a motion to bo oarried. The matter would, however be brought before the judge at the. next sitting of the Dlatrlot Court,-— " Southland Times." '
