This U not a picked sheet, and can be taken as a fair average per day of tbelr earnings. In other sheets for the preaent month It appears that i some of the best coal-hewera earned j 22a per day, and m only one Instance did a figure »s low as 7a 61 appear, and this was the payment of a man who i§ a very Inferior coal miner. This 7s 6J Is the average Viotorfan miner'a earning!. It muat alao be stated that In the instances where the earnings per day reached as high as 22', the men only worked five days aweek, evidently being satisfied to auch an ( extent that a holiday for a day's fishing, t coursing, or shooting, the favorite pas- i times of the coal miners np here, oonld be availed of In the happiest frame of ! nvnd. a faot worth mentioning and one j very apropos la that the miner c oan take i two holidays m the week without asking the manager or giving any Intimation whatever of It.
