THE MINERS' STRIKE.
COAL AND MINERS FROM ENGLAND. EJFFECT ON SHIPPING. VRTSMPT TO BLOW UP A MINE
(PBR PRBSS ASSOCIATION.) London, September 13. Owing to the strike of the Newcastle miners several English steamers have been engaged to convey coal to Australia, Ship owners generally feel indisposed to place their vessels on the Australian berth, fearine; that the strike m the coloßy will prevent steamers coaling and obtaining return cargoes. Sydney, September 14 Little surprise is felt here at the failure of the conference yesterday between the coalminers and the* men. A large number of miners hays left England fo* Newcastle, under three years' engagement. A further batch will follow shortly. It is stated that an offer has been made to the mine masters to bring out 3000 Belgians to take the place of the men out on strike. The non-Unionist men working m a small colliery at Burwood, two miies from Newcastle, refused to agree to the request of the Unionists to cease work, and during the night an attempt was made to blow the eqtrance of the mine up with dynamite; Very little damage was done. ; -
