Mr Gordorj, Inspecting Engineer of the Mines Department, leaves for Melbourne next week, taking with him the more valuable speciru6n3 to be placed m the Mineral Department of tbe New Zealand Court at the Melbourne Exhibition. The seleotion of tbe New minerals to be sent to the Paris ' Exhibition will be made by Mr Gordon while m Melbourne. The barquentine Kate Tat ham, which went ashore at Cloudy Bay on the 9ch ultimo while on her way from Newcastle to Napier with coal, was successfully floated last niK'at and towed into Port Underwood. This morning the vessel will be beached, and the necessary repairs made to allow of her being towed to Wellington. Lilly white telegraphs that the English football team will play at Newton for £100. It is unlikely that the local union will guarantee. more than 60 or 80 per cent ?{ tt)e gate money.
