IMPROVEMENTS AT THE RACECOURSE.
The Ashburton Racing Olab are miking great Improvements at the raceoomse, which will add very materially to the oonvonieuca of those' patronising the fature meetings of the Olub. The en* olosare containing the saddling pkddook and lawn has been greatly enlarged, the fence at the rear having been shifted back at least a chain. The building m the paddock whioh composed the Secretary's office and the stabling accom* modatlon has been entirely transformed. New stables having been erected else* where the space occupied by the old stalls has been utilizad la effecting im-. provements which will much entiaiwe ths' comfort and oonvaulenoe of officials, jockeys, and others. In the first plaoe ,^ the jockeys' room has been double/d^fS* *'■ ** slz3. Next to it a room has been fitted upjor the reporters, a boon whtoh the ' representatives of the press will be duly grateful for. The compartment , for thY Bcales has bean enlarged to dbodt dbiible its former siza. Some neoesaary »Uer«> .. tlons have been effected fa the Seoretarj'i ; room, and ommodloai quarter* have' been fitted tip fov the Stewards at the end of the building nearest to the grand stand. A new stable . containing tea stalls has been erected at the rear of the .? paddock as now enlarged. With the additional spaoe at their dFipoiolV; throngh enlarging the enolosure, thf \ y ._ Olab have been able to nearly double the ' sfze of the lawn, and In addition a small enclosure for offiolals has been in«de> . Messrs Barnes and Smith, who are the' contractors, have almost completed their - work. All those who attend the forth* coming Sprlne meeting will certainly be pleased at the altered appearance of tfie ground, and the great improvements that have been effected, and the Olab are to be congratulated on the enterprise that has prompted them to incur a considerable outlay m oarrylng out these works*
