Auckland, September 8, The football match between the English team, who are touring the colonies, and the Auckland representatives, took plaoe to-day at the Tramway Company's ground, Epsom, when the Bnplishmen won by three points to nil The weather was beautifully fine, and about 7000 people were present Each of the Englishmen wore a band of orape on his left arm out of respect to the memory of their lato oaptaln (Mr Seddon). The game was a very fine one, and wan tough ly contested, especially during the first spell. Particularly conspicuous among the play of the Englishmen was that of their captain (Stoddart) whoao dodgy run* and fine pots were exceedingly good. Brooks, Barnby, Hftslara, Speakman, and Eagles, were alao noted for thoir clever play, and Brooks on one occasion savod almost a cortain score on the part of Auokland by kicking Into touoh m gaol when Stephonson wa» dribbling over the line, Spaakman gained the only score of the mat oh for England during the seoond spell, potting rather an easy gaol. The Auokland men made a much hotter stand than waa anticipated The team generally was considered a weak one. They showed themselves to be a match for the Fngllsmen m the aorrnns, and m the oollarlng and dribbling taotlos, but the returns of tbolr. baokei were frequently spoiled. During the seoond spell Stepheuson oi the Anokland team wa«f lamed, and though he did not retire, he was useless.
