WABHiNGTOir, September 6, The Chinese Exclusion Bill was denounced both m the Senate and House of Representatives as an election dodge, m order that by the doubtful States being rendered neutral the Presidential election might be secured by the Democrats. Bong Koko, September 6 The papers here believe that the rumored edict ordering the Chinese to return home is a mere canard. Canton, September 6. The passing of the Chinese Exclusion Bill by the American Congress created great excitement m this city, and serious riots broke out. The residence of the American Minister was attacked by the Chinese. The authorities took prompt measures to quell the disturbance. Pekin, Saptomber 6 It is thought that possibly the treaty with America will be modified and ratified. (Received September 10, 12.30 p.m.) London, September 0. A telegram to the ''Times" states that the rioting at Canton has not yet been subdued. Washington, Soptember 8. • President Cleveland states that the ratification of the American Chinese treaty has been postponed by the Chinese Government pending further consideration. Senator Blair has made a proposition m Congress to the effect ! that if the Chinese ratify the treaty, the Chinese Exclusion Bill passed by both Houses should be annulled.
