Some time Bince we published a small paragraph en the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed m the oolony. .This reaohed Messrs Kirlcpatrlck and Co., of Nelson, and they went to work m a very practical fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the best quality. Two cases of assorted jftms were cent to this office, with a re- . quest that we would thoroughly test the ' j»m along with other brands, and give our opinion. vVe are hippy to state, frankly and fully that we nave been very much surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Klrkpatriok 's gift we were nnaware that JSew Zealand could boast of an tndustry of which It has so much reason to be proud. Tbe various sorts of jam were tested by a nomber of persons, who compared thp samples with other brands, sud the geheiriil verdict is .hue not only are Meßara KirkpatrfckV prodgotiuuß far aud away better than any other Mew Zealand brand we can obtain, but they ire superior to jjin^ilan jams m being fresher. The nearest approach to the excellence of the Nelson jam was that contained In tins bearing toe namo of a Tasmsnlan firm, but even In this comparison the Nelson article came out a long way best. We are pleased to bo able to give unstinted praise to a genuine local industry, the prodnot of whioh wo can unreservedly recommend to consumers. All of the many pgrgpno yho havo tested the Bampl«t)~»re Icj&cl" In Tn'e > ff"prftisa, And we most uorenetyedly congratulate Mes<ra Klrkpatrlck and (Jo, upon turning out a genolow fruit jum fftth grape the tables and pletee thw pwlatpii " v 'or"""t.he moat luxurious and fHiiiiciiniiH.— tY Ha'vvk'a'i bay Hefaia," .luiy iSthT Samples ot Klrkpatrlck and Go's " X " brand of jam have been forwarded to us and we ore free to confess that they appear to be In every way excellent and afl th#y beoome better known m the local market will meet with much appreciation from ihe h,eado $t households.
