London, September $. Hon. Thomas Holt, ex-member of the New South Wales : Legislative Council, aged 77. [Mr Holt wm the son of ■ wool merchant m Leeds, and was born »t Horbury. m Yorkshire, 1811. He wm brought op as a wool buyer, m whioh oapaolty he travelled largely on the Oontloent. la 1842 he came to Australia, and engaged m wool buying In that country till 1855, when he retired, He parchued Urge station propertied la Qaeenslsnd, *nd landed estates m New 80 nth Wales, notably Arthnrslelgh, Wlagello, »nd Kiams, and the magnificent estate and prlvata resldenoe "The Warren," at 0 n)k'a River. He entered Parliamtat m 1856, the first yew under responsible Government, and was Colonial Treasurer m the Donaldson Ministry. He went to Europe m 1866, but returned to the oolony tn 1868, and was shortly after nominated to a neat m the Legislative Oonooil.]
