(PEK PBBBS ASSOCIATION.) London, September 4. New Consols are quoted at 99£. 1 The market rate of discount is 2^ per cent, and the Bank rate 3 per cent. New Zealand frozen mutton, 3s 4d to 8s 6d per stone of 81b. Great activity is being displayed m Liverpool shipping cirles, and owing to the lack of seamen freights have risen considerably. A telegram from London dated September 4th, states :— " The market is still firm. We have sold one cargo at 38s, fair average quality New Zealand, on passage. Another cargo has been sold at 38s 6d for October shipment, both fair average quality. Tuscan wheat is m good demand for shipment by steamers." Another telegram says :— " The Broderick Bay's cargo sold at 38s 6d for average quality." The following message has been received under date Calcutta, September 4th :— The " freight market to New Zealand is very much firmer ; half crown higher rates are being asked. S»oks for October shipment are 3s 8d higher."
