THE MINERS' STRIKE.
[>ER rRBSB ASSOCIATION ] Sydney, September 4 The miners m the southern districts have demanded from the musters an increase of rates paid for heaving coal, and it is feared, unless the request be conceded, the men will go out on strike. Thirty vessels have discharged crews m consequence of the Newcastle strifce, One of the principal southern coal mines was discovered to be on fire today, and it is suspected that some of the men on fstrike are concerned m the affair. The fire was fortunately extinguished before much damage was done. : ! Owing to the exertions of Mr JJrunker, Minister of Lands, a conference between the coal masters and miners on, the matter m dispute has been arranged. Mblbournb, September 4 There are now fully ICOO wharf hands out of employment, owing to the Newcastle strike.
