Brisbane. September 4. In July last a difficulty arose between his Excellency the Governor and his advisers m consequence of the former declining to release a prisoner upon advice tendered by Ministers. The Premier thereupon asked his Excellency to dismiss his Ministers: Since then negotiations have been going on, but his Excellency has steadfastly declined to recede from the position he had previously taken up. To-day, therefore, Sir T. Mcllwraith placed his resignation m the hands of his Excellency. In consequence of the resignation of Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, his Excellency the Governor has sent for Sir Samuel Griffith, leader of the Opposition, SiH I Thomas Mcllwraith has cabled details of the dispute to the Colonial Office.
